The Waccamaw River and Plantations
The plantations on the Waccamaw River were strategically located in terms of the cultivation of rice. The very climate and environment of this region made rice cultivation very profitable.

Arundel Plantation received its name from Arundel Castle, seat of the Duke of Norfolk located on the Arun River, Sussex, England. At the turn of the century, John Julius Pringle owned the plantation. He then transferred it to Dr. William Allston in 1806.At this time the main house was located across the lake, north of the present dwelling. Learn More...
